1. Introduction

Basically, SopCast uses media encoding/decoding solution of Microsoft, therefore the supported file formats are Windows Media Video (WMV), Windows Media Audio (WMA), and Advanced Systems Format (ASF). For live stream mms://, mmsh:// and http:// protocol are supported to transmit media content.

In addition, RealMedia (RM), RealMedia Variable Bitrate (RMVB), MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3 (MP3) are supported by SopCast. But for better watching experience, windows media types are recommended.

2. Encoding Topology

The topology of SopCast streaming system is shown as below.

Normally, SopCast only provides SopServer and sets up the P2P distribution network. Media content and Media Server should be prepared by users or customers.
